The idea behind this logo is to reflect the goals and objectives of the Illinois GIS Initiative Group:

1) GIS in Illinois consists of many professionals working together throughout the state, our strength is in our network of shared experiences and resources.

2) Our GIS activities in Illinois will reach their full potential when we can seamlessly provide data to each other and our users through a common network.

This logo denotes that much of our work involves networking with others beyond the borders of Illinois.

The proposed name for our initiative is based on a title that more accurately describes what we are trying to accomplish, that is a common statewide network of location information:

o   Illinois GIS-Location Information Network Consortium

o   Use of the term “LINC” in Illinois GIS-LINC is a tribute to Abraham Lincoln, arguably the most prominent spatial expert (surveyor) in the history of the State of Illinois.
